This is Thirsk. Best known as the home of James Herriot, (Alfred Wright) the creater of All Creatures Great and Small, a series of books and a popular 1970's TV show. The building where the real Dr. Wright lived, and wrote, has been turned into the World of James Herriot.

Thirsk is also well known for it's large market square, with big open markets on Mondays and Saturdays. I picked up a lot of good hot fatty food, some Jefferson Airplane, Hair, Santana, and The Mamas and the Papas.

I found a lot of campgrounds located at horse racing tracks.
