My goal for the day was Bauska. Cross the border and find my way to a cheap hotel that LP lists as "the only place around." Unfortunately I never got around to exchanging currency, and by the time I got to town, the banks were closed. In an act of desperation I tried the ATM machine which hasn't worked two months and 7 countries. For the first time instead of a message about a password error, I got a message saying that I was asking for too much. WHOA!!!!! Big time. I reentered my card, asked for a little less and bingo cash flowed out. G damn for the first time my ATM card worked and I had about $2k in German, American Express Travelers Checks. After a night to chill, I booked another night to walk around and explore Bauska.

Oh downtown Bauska was under road construction.
